Classroom Spotlight: Ms. Krissy's Classroom

This week began a unit on pumpkins with a focus on learning the life cycle and various pumpkin vocabulary words. Some literacy activities were creating a class concept web, composing a list of descriptive words, and labeling the parts of a pumpkin. Fine motor skill practice included using scissors to cut straight and curved lines and forming play dough into pumpkin balls. At the art center, children drew a pumpkin and then painted them with water colors, made a “Five Little Pumpkins” project to go along with a story, and collaborated on a large painted pumpkin mural. At the sensory table, black beans and small pumpkins provided opportunities to practice pouring and enhancing the concepts of “empty” and “full.” Real pumpkins were observed at the science table using magnifying glasses. Some math activities included counting pumpkins using one-to-one correspondence, writing numerals, and creating patterns with dot markers. It was a wonderful start to our pumpkin unit filled with curiosity, creativity, and learning.

Food Drive November 3-6

We have heard from many families who are looking for ways to help our community! We anticipate a huge increase in need, and are inspired by your dedication to help others. We are partnering with the Niles Township Food Pantry to host another food and toiletry donation drive. The Pantry serves hundreds of families in our community, including many in District 68.

Next week, Monday, November 3rd to Thursday, November 6th, we will have boxes available at the front offices of our schools for your donations. At this time, the highest need items are: cooking oil, diapers, feminine hygiene products, and baby formula.

If you are unable to donate food, but would like to support, a monetary donation goes a long way. The Food Pantry is able to buy in bulk, buy refrigerated items, and without the sales tax, dollars go further. If you are willing and able, you can make a donation here:

You can support the great work the Niles Township Government does through the Food Pantry by volunteering, too! Families who prefer not to go out at this time can ask for a proxy shopper/delivery provided by Pantry Volunteers.

From the Niles Township Food Pantry:

November 1 SNAP benefits for 3,330 Township families will end.

At our food pantry, we witness firsthand the impact of hunger on families, children, and seniors, and we also see the incredible difference our community makes when we work together.

If we can get 1,000 neighbors to commit to $20 per month (less than the cost of a takeout meal), we can provide our community with fresh produce, fresh meat, eggs, culturally sensitive foods, pantry staples, hygiene items, and diapers.

Your support helps us provide fresh produce, culturally meaningful foods, diapers, and other essentials so that every neighbor has access to the groceries and dignity they deserve.

When you give today, you’re not just filling a plate; you’re fueling hope, strengthening families, and building a stronger, more connected Niles Township.

Dress for the Weather

As the weather continues to change, please be sure to dress your child appropriately for the conditions. We will continue to go outside for gross motor activities, weather permitting.

To help your child stay comfortable and safe outdoors, please send them to school with:

  • A warm jacket or coat
  • Hat and gloves/mittens
  • Extra layers for colder mornings

If you would like to change out your summer extra clothes that stay at school for warmer ones, please send us a pair of pants, a long-sleeve shirt, and socks.

Please also make sure to label all clothing and personal items with your child’s name to help prevent them from getting lost or mixed up with others.

Car Seats

Please have your child in the right car seat for your child's age, height, and weight in your vehicle when you drop-off or pick-up your child from school.

The Child Passenger Protection Act requires that all children under age 8 be properly secured in an appropriate child safety restraint system.

Children ages 2 to 4 should remain in a rear-facing safety seat for as long as possible, or until they are at the upper height or weight limit of the seat. When a child out- grows a rear-facing safety seat, he or she may transition to a forward-facing seat with a harness system.

Children ages 4-8 should be secured in a forward-facing safety seat with an internal harness system until they reach the upper height or weight limit allowed by the car seat manufacturer. When a child outgrows the forward-facing seat, he or she may transition to a belt-positioning booster seat.

For more information about child passenger safety requirements, please click HERE.

If you need help obtaining the appropriate car seat for your child(ren), please contact your child's teacher, and our team will work to connect you with resources that can help.

Flu Clinic

We are offering flu vaccinations to students on Monday, November 10, 2025 in the morning at the Early Childhood Center. The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile through Advocate Children’s Hospital will operate school-based flu vaccination clinics for students. Participation in the flu vaccination is voluntary, and participating students will be given the injectable vaccine.

If you would like for your child to receive the flu vaccine at school, please complete and return the Influenza Vaccine Consent Form. Consent forms were due October 24, 2025

Parents/guardians will need to be present at the time of your child’s appointment to support your child getting a shot. Parents of students who attend the ECC in the afternoons are welcome to make an appointment in the morning but must accompany their child to the appointment. Afternoon appointments are not available.
